Knappogue Castle 16 Year Irish Whiskey 750ml
Description
Knappogue Castle 16 Year elevates the distillery’s single malt range to new heights, showcasing what additional years of maturation can bring to this elegant spirit. This exceptional expression benefits from sixteen years in carefully selected bourbon barrels, with a portion of the whiskey finished in sherry casks to add complexity and depth. The result is a whiskey that maintains the refined character of Knappogue Castle while adding layers of sophistication that come only with extended aging. The nose reveals the transformative effect of time and careful cask management. The clean malt character that defines Knappogue Castle is now accompanied by deeper, more complex aromas. Rich honey and vanilla from the bourbon barrels mingle with dried fruit notes from the sherry influence – particularly apricots and golden raisins. There’s a sophisticated nuttiness, reminiscent of roasted hazelnuts, while the extended aging brings notes of polished oak and old leather. Delicate spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of ginger – weave throughout, while maintaining the elegant restraint that characterizes this range. The palate delivers a beautifully balanced experience that showcases both the quality of the spirit and the influence of extended maturation. The texture is remarkably smooth and coating, carrying complex flavors that unfold gradually. Initial notes of honey and vanilla give way to rich fruit flavors – both fresh orchard fruits and the dried fruits from sherry influence. The malt character remains clear and clean, now enhanced by notes of butterscotch, toasted almonds, and gentle oak spices. The finish is long and satisfying, with alternating waves of sweet and dry, concluding with lingering notes of honey, fruit, and noble spices. This 16-year expression proves that Knappogue Castle’s patient approach to whiskey making yields exceptional results.
