Guiseppe Cortese Rabaja Barbaresco 2020 750ml
Description
Rabaj? stands among Barbaresco’s most hallowed vineyards, mentioned in the same breath as Asili and Martinenga. Giuseppe Cortese’s interpretation of this legendary cru in the challenging yet ultimately successful 2020 vintage proves that great terroir transcends difficult conditions. This is Barbaresco that speaks with a clear, powerful voice about its prestigious origins.
The Rabaj? cru’s magic lies in its perfect storm of conditions – ideal exposure, complex marl-limestone soils, and a microclimate that allows Nebbiolo to achieve full ripeness while maintaining nerve-tingling acidity. Cortese’s meticulous farming and traditional winemaking allow this exceptional terroir to express itself without interference.
Even in its youth, this wine displays the breed and complexity that makes Rabaj? special. The nose offers an intoxicating mix of fresh red cherries, rose petals, and blood orange, underscored by more complex notes of white truffle, licorice, and crushed herbs. There’s a mineral undertone throughout – that distinctive limestone signature that marks wines from Barbaresco’s finest sites.
The palate confirms Rabaj?’s reputation for producing powerful yet elegant Barbaresco. Despite the vintage challenges, this wine shows remarkable concentration and balance. Firm but refined tannins provide structure for the long haul, while vibrant acidity keeps everything fresh and focused. Flavors of red fruit, spice, and earth create a complex tapestry that promises even greater things with age.
Giuseppe Cortese’s 2020 Rabaj? is a wine that demands patience but will reward it handsomely. While it offers glimpses of greatness now, its true destiny lies 10-20 years in the future. For collectors seeking benchmark Barbaresco from a legendary vineyard, this represents both immediate satisfaction and long-term investment potential.
